6 Fakeaway Recipes That Are Seriously Yummy!

If you haven’t heard of a fakeaway, my word, you’re deffo in for a treat with these delicious fakeaway recipes!

Ditch the takeaway menu and opt for something cheaper, healthier, and super easy to make in your student accommodation.

The best part? Most of these dishes can be ready in 30-minutes or less, giving you plenty of time to chill out for the evening.

So, let’s take a look at 10 recipes that are bound to satisfy your rumbling tummy!

1. Salt And Pepper Prawns

Salt & Pepper Prawns Fakeaway Recipes

You can’t beat salt and pepper prawns, especially when you’ve made them fresh with bags of flavour.

This Tesco recipe is super easy to follow and perfect to impress your uni mates with!

Ingredients:

  • Vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 3 tbsp plain flour
  • 75ml sparkling water
  • 250g raw jumbo king prawns
  • ½ tsp sea salt flakes
  • 1 tsp ground white pepper
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 red chilli

Method:

1. Half fill a medium saucepan with oil and heat until it reaches 180 degrees, put both flours in a bowl and whisk in sparkling water until smooth.

2. Lower the prawns in the hot oil and cook until they’re golden and crisp, transfer them onto some lined kitchen paper and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

3. Next, heat 2 tsp oil in a small saucepan over a medium-high heat, add the spring onion and cooked chilli and cook for 1 minute.

4. Transfer the prawns onto a serving bowl and garnish with spring onion and chilli to serve!

2. Tofu Thai Curry

This delicious tofu Thai curry is perfect for a Friday night, filled with goodness.

Tofu Thai Curry
Ingredients:

  • Shallots
  • Sesame oil
  • Thai green curry paste
  • Vegetable stock
  • Lighter coconut milk
  • Thai fish sauce
  • 1 medium aubergine
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves
  • 200g tofu
  • ½ green pepper
  • 50g mangetout
  • 50g babycorn
  • Juice of 1 Lime

Method:

1. Fry the shallots in oil on a medium heat for 2-3 minutes, add the chilli and fry for 1 minute, stir in the curry paste and fry.

2. Pour in the hot stock, coconut milk and Thai fish sauce (if you’re using it) and bring it to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer.

3. Add the aubergine and lime leaves and cook for 10 minutes.

4. Whilst doing this, cook your rice.

5. Add the tofu and green pepper to the curry and cook with the lid off for 3 minutes, add the mangetout and baby corn and squeeze in the lime juice.

Serve your curry with rice and enjoy!

3. Fish Tikka Curry

Want to save some money, you deffo will with these fakeaway recipes! This particular Jamie Oliver recipe uses frozen fish – a great money saver.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Lemon
  • Tikka curry paste
  • 400g frozen white fish fillets
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 5cm piece of ginger
  • 1 fresh red chilli
  • 15g coriander
  • Olive oil
  • 300g potatoes
  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • 300g frozen cauliflower
  • 50g red split lentils
  • 1 mug basmati rice
  • 10 cloves
  • 4 tablespoons of fat-free yoghurt

Method:

1. Firstly, cut your lemon in half, cut one half into wedges, safe it for later and squeeze the juice of the other lime with 1 tablespoon of tikka paste.

2. Mix together, massage over the frozen fish and leave aside to marinate and defrost.

3. Peel and slice the onion, garlic and chilli with coriander and place it in a casserole pan on a medium heat with some oil and the remaining tikka paste.

4. Next, peel the potatoes, cook them into chunks, then stir into the pan and cook everything for 15 minutes.

5. Quarter your tomatoes, add pan to the cauliflower, lentils and 600ml of boiling water, bring to the boil and simmer for 45 minutes.

6. Finally, cook your rice, dry-fry the fish for up to 3-5 minutes, stir half the yoghurt through your curry and dollop the remaining yoghurt on top.

4. Salt & Pepper Chicken

Salt & pepper chicken is an absolute legendary takeaway, so why not make it yourself? It’s fresh and much cheaper!

Ingredients:

  • Chicken thighs or drumsticks – all skin removed
  • 2-3 tbsp salt & pepper spice mix
  • ½ red pepper deseeded & chopped
  • ½ onion finely chopped
  • 3 spring onions finely chopped
  • ½ chilli deseeded and finely chopped
  • Low calorie cooking spray

Method:

1. Toast your salt flakes in a pan until they start to brown and mix the toasted salt and all the other spice mix ingredients together.

2. Sprinkle your chicken thighs with a couple of teaspoons of the spice mix.

3. Place them on a baking tray and cook as per pack instructions.

4. When the chicken is cooked, heat up a wok with your low-calorie cooking spray, add the spring onions, onions, chili, and peppers to the wok.

5. Once browned, add the chicken thighs to the wok along with 1 or 2 tablespoons, cook for another 3 or 4 minutes and sprinkle with chopped onions!

5. Chicken Satay Skewers

You can’t beat a bit of chicken satay, it’s even better when it doesn’t cost that much to eat and is much healthier than a takeaway!

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breast cut into pieces
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • ¼ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp ground fennel
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 onion
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger
  • 3 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 red chilli
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce/ Worcester sauce
  • 3 tbsp granulated sweetener
  • 600ml Alpro Coconut Drink
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 4 tbsp PB2 powdered peanut butter made up to a paste with water

Method:

1. Get your chicken and mix it with a tablespoon of spice mix, mix well, cover with cling film and leave in the fridge for 30 minutes.

2. Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees and soak your cocktail sticks in warm water for 10 minutes.

3. Place 2 chicken pieces onto each one and pop on a baking tray into the oven for 12 minutes!

4. For the sauce, fry the onion, garlic, ginger, and chilli until the onion is soft.

5. Add the freshly ground spices and stir for one minute, then add all the other sauce ingredients apart from the cornflour.

6. Simmer over a medium heat for ten minutes, blitz with a blender and then return to the pan!

7. Turn the heat up to high, mix the cornflour with some water and stir in the simmering sauce until it thickens.

6. Nachos

Nachos Fakeaway Recipes

Everybody loves nachos, a dish perfect for a Friday night movie with your uni mates, and one of the best fakeaway recipes!

Ingredients:

  • Plain tortilla crisps
  • 225g jar of salsa
  • A few slices of spring onions
  • Chunk of cheese
  • Crushed chilli flakes
  • Soured cream or guacamole

Method:

1. Get your tortilla chips and pour them onto a baking tray, pour over some salsa and scatter over a few sliced spring onions.

2. Grate over your cheese with some crushed chilli flakes and put under a hot grill for 3 minutes!

3. You can serve with soured cream or guacamole if you fancy some more sauce.
