Update on questions over early tenancy release at your Private Landlord owned accommodation

We have been in dialogue with all the various building owners of each property within the managed portfolio of Urban Student Life regarding the current Covid-19 situation and the requests from students about their tenancy.

For Clarity, each accommodation may have a different Landlord or Owner and as such we have written to them to take decisions and give their direction on how they wish to deal with your tenancy.

The Government has already published clear guidelines to Landlords and Owners about this situation and a copy of the link can be found below with relevance to the statement by the Ministry of Housing.

The vast majority of Owners with whom we have made contact indicate they are not eligible for any of the other business or personal support measures announced by the government, with the owners continued obligation to pay for the running cost of the accommodation to allow the accommodations to operate and remain open.  We are aware this operational ruling is in contrast with the policy at many University owned Halls of Residences where accommodation is a secondary income for the University.

To confirm, your accommodation must remain open for all our students requiring it to meet The Minister of State for Universities advice that Students should not attempt to travel.

If you, or your family, have suffered financially from recent events and it is affecting your ability to pay your rent then please contact your local General Manager to discuss options on payment arrangements. Please be assured that we are here to support you and will do in so far as we reasonably can

We have emailed students of each accommodations separately with an update.
