10 Best Things To Do For Students This Halloween 2022

Spoooooky season is upon us! The nights get longer and darker, the cobwebs shine in the moonlight and the howl of the werewolves keeps us up each night.

It is a magical time of year and for Halloween 2022 you’ve got no excuse but to get involved and scare yourself silly with some great nights out, scary movie nights in your comfy student apartment, and maybe a Halloween party thrown in for good measure.

Halloween is one of the best times of the year as a student.

Wherever you study and live, your campus will be a hive of activity, leaning into Halloween in a way that is well beyond the bin bag witches and toilet roll mummies from our childhood.

The sports teams and societies will have big, messy nights out that include a whole lot of drinking, costumes, make-up, and pumpkins.

If you’re after something a little slower paced there will be movie screenings, Halloween-themed menus and much more.

We’ve put together a little guide on how to celebrate Halloween 2022 with 10 best things to do!

Halloween 2022

1. Host A Wild Party

It’s still quite early in the year so you’ve got loads of opportunities to socialise, let yourself go and have some fun, without worrying too much about lectures and exams (this is especially the case for first year students).

Host your own flat or house party for Halloween and get all your friend’s round for some fun.

Bake some ghostly treats, make themed drinks, and cover the house in DIY decorations – bats hanging from the ceiling, giant spiders in cobwebs, eyeballs in the punch, and dead bodies and blood in the bathroom.

Create the perfect dark lighting and moody playlist and you’ll have loads and loads of fun this Halloween 2022!

2. Go On A Ghoulish Bar Crawl

If you don’t fancy hosting a Halloween party, why not join a pub crawl in town instead.

Like we mentioned, there will be plenty of sports clubs and societies at your university going for a big night out over Halloween weekend.

If it’s a messy one with a big group, look for the bars and clubs with the best drinks deals, the wildest parties, and competitions for the best dressed this Halloween.

If you’re lucky enough to live in a place where there are some, how about a pub crawl of all the most haunted pubs in your city?

Fingers crossed you can scare the hangover away the next morning too!

3. Pre-drinks At Home

A big night out can quite easily end up costing you a lot of money, especially, if you’re out for a long time.

One way to cut your costs is to host a small group of friends at home to pre-drink before you head out into town.

That way, you can still create the Halloween-style punch bowl, stick a scary movie on in the background, and dim the lights for the atmosphere.

The difference though is you’ll be getting merry and reducing your spending later in the night when you’re at a club in town, or on your 5th bar of the night.

4. Terrifyingly Good Bakes

It doesn’t matter whether you feel you’re good enough to enter The Great British Bake Off or you have never baked a cake in your life and want to just give it a go, Halloween is the perfect time to get your bake on.

There are some fantastic Halloween recipes out there for you to try.

From the simple cookies designed to look like pumpkins or skulls, to melted marshmallows on chocolate rice cakes that are made to look like cobwebs and mummies.

A Halloween ‘slasher’ cake with a red velvet filling is our personal favourite.

If you’ve got a party or a movie night coming up at your apartment, baking some treats is a great way to welcome your friends in.

5. Carve Out Some Pumpkin Time

Whether you’re having a party at your student home or not you should seriously consider putting up some decorations and getting in the mood for Halloween.

One of the best ways to do this is by carving pumpkins.

It’s probably the classic Halloween activity and is even more fun when you do it with a group of friends.

Scooping out the insides of the pumpkin flesh is a messy way to bond with your mates, and you can use it to make a soup or a treat afterwards to minimise waste!

Compete to see who can come up with the craziest pumpkin carving designs, from the standard scary face to classic horror movie characters and posters.

There’s something magical about the flame inside a pumpkin that you’ve carved yourself.

It can really set the mood for your movie night!

6. A Haunting Halloween Movie Spectacular

If you love scary movies (as an avid fan or as someone hiding behind a cushion and scared of every jump scare), then spooky season is the perfect time to have a movie marathon.

We all have our favourite type of scary movie. Some people like the classic black and white movies from the early years of cinema.

Nosferatu from the 1920s is a terrific silent movie version of Dracula.

Move on to the B-movies from America in the 1950s and beyond, with aliens, body-snatchers, blobs and things and hauntings.

Hammer Horror and the bright red blood from Dracula, Frankenstein, and others.

Other people prefer the slasher, gore movies like Halloween, Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.

How about fun Halloween movies like Beetlejuice Hocus Pocus (plus the new one)?

We have been blessed as movie lovers with brilliant horror throughout cinematic history, and it continues to today with films like Get Out and Midsommar pushing the boundaries and scaring us witless.

7. Have A Sleepless Night Away

If you love to chase ghosts and believe in the supernatural, what better way to spend some time this Halloween than to look for a mini break at one of the most haunted hotels in the UK?

A dark Victorian-era hotel in the middle of nowhere is bound to have some ghosts there, right?

There are some budget options around for the average student, and it could be just what you need during the middle of the semester – a little break to chill away the cobwebs and help you recharge your batteries.

Just don’t go reading up on past murders and crimes where you’re staying, it’ll definitely scare you off.

8. Go On A Ghost Tour

Ghost walking tours can be found in most towns and cities across the UK.

You can picture the scene, an amateur actor dressed up as Dracula, cape in hand, walking you round the streets and telling you historical facts and where the ghosts can be found!

These types of tours can be whatever you make of them, so lean into it, they can be a bit silly at times.

What we can guarantee though, is that you’ll have loads of fun roaming the dark streets!

Keep your fingers crossed for a foggy few hours to make things even creepier!

9. Themed Scary Attractions

Now, this is a great one, there are places all over the country that play host to scary spectaculars!

Full of dark mazes, haunted mansions, asylum rooms, zombie actors, creepy clowns, and chainsaw-wielding maniacs chasing you and your friends round the site, a scare attraction is an incredible night out.

One top tip that we’d give you, especially if you’re the type to jump and scream at the slightest movement, is to just scream and run away constantly.

That way, they’ll never know when you’re genuinely scared at the clown guy jumping out from behind the wall at you!

10. A Night Out At The Drive-in Or Theatre

The beauty of this time of year is that there are loads of events and Halloween-specific things going on in any city.

If you love the theatre, keep an eye on the local listings, you might be lucky and get scared at The Woman in Black.

Alternatively, have a look at your local cinema and any drive-in cinemas.

These are proving very popular in recent years, and you’ll find that there are classic Halloween showings in the weeks running up to the night itself.

If you’re lucky enough to have access to a car and there’s a drive-in cinema in your area, grab a blanket, make up a picnic, and get cosy watching a classic movie under the stars.

Whatever it is you decide to do this Halloween, whether it’s stay at home with friends and a few scary baked treats and a couple of horror movies, a big night out on the town with your university society, or a ghost tour around some of the most haunted places in your town, make sure you have fun.

It’s the time of year to let your hair down, make new friends, and get spooked.

Halloween 2022 could soon become your favourite memory of this year and your favourite season every year!
